    Essential Duties (This list is not exhaustive and other duties may be assigned):

    • Translate and interpret Japanese/English communications (verbal & written)
    • Assist Japanese associates and their families as needed (including after regular work hours, and weekends are a must)
    • Setup house repairs, school appointments
    • Be a point of contact for the owners of the rental houses to take care of any issues that they have
    • Assist with school assignments’ explanations as needed and communications to/from school
    • Pay final bills for Japanese after they have been transferred back to Japan, assist KTH with taking care of tax payments the year after Japanese have returned to Japan, coordinate the transfer of bank balances to Japan upon completion of taxes and close out bank accounts
    • Provide Safety Training for Japanese KTH associates and Japanese TAs upon arrival to KTH
    • Track and maintain training related documents and run reports (update Intelex, files, etc.)
    • Coordinate all aspects necessary for Japanese TAs (hotel reservations, uniform orders, LOTO locks, safety training schedules, company car reservations, guest wireless, etc.)
      Track and maintain Japanese TAs’ safety training
    • Assist with passport acquisition for KTH associates, (update passport/I-94/Visa information.)
    • Update Management Calendar with Training schedules, business trip schedules, meetings, etc.
    • Maintain a current driver’s license
    • Work flexible hours, overtime, and/or weekends as needed
    • Rotate jobs or shifts as needed
    • Maintain attendance per KTH policy
    • Work in a team environment
    • Support tax preparation and Japanese payroll process

    Additional Job Responsibilities:

    • Hold yearly reviews with Management to review training needs and inform Management of all training gaps
    • Train KTH Managers and needed associates on how to use the Intelex Database
    • Assist or provide backup to Support Staff with tasks (computer/projector set up, room layouts, power point presentations, company cars, etc.)
    • Serve as back-up to Support Staff to coordinate travel for KTH associates
    • Coordinate annual physicals for Japanese associates and family members
    • Schedule company car usage during peak usage times to coordinate cars for business trips, Japanese TAs and other KTH short to long term usage
    • Write articles about Japan culture and/or food for the KTH newsletter
    • Create training presentations as needed for Japanese associates
    • Set up group training classes with external training companies
    • Set up both individual and group training classes with HOST
    • Coordinate external translators schedules and requests
    • Hold Japanese cultural training for KTH associates going to Japan for the first time
    • Assist KTH associates with filling out expense reports for domestic and international business travel
    • Assist Support Staff in maintaining hotel reservation sheet to track external Japanese reservations
    • Act as point of contact for area hotels to handle issues with Japanese guests
    • Handle any issues for the Japanese TAs such as medical, airline, traffic law related, etc.
    • Complete cross-training assignments as needed
    • Complete TPM assignments/requirements in a timely manner
    • Perform other duties as assigned to the satisfaction of the HR Manager or KTH Management


    • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to do the essential functions of the Translator position.


    • High School Diploma or general equivalent diploma (GED).



    • Two (2) years of post high school education and at least one year of related work experience.


    • Must be able to fluently speak and comprehend both English and Japanese languages. Ability to write simple correspondence in both.
    • Ability to effectively use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Power Point. 
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages.



    • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions in both English and Japanese.  Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations

    • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to sit, stand, walk, use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and to talk or hear.
    • The associate is occasionally required to go out onto the production floor.
    • The associate may frequently lift and move about 4 to 8 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry items weighing 20 pounds for a short distance.
    • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment:
    Associates are required to work in a typical office environment where the temperature is controlled throughout the year, but may occasionally be warm or cool to individual preferences.  Associates are required to work an 8-hour day (not including overtime or other factors affecting the production schedule).  Associates are required to wear personal protective equipment, which includes uniform and closed toe/heel shoes (when going into the production area - bump cap, safety glasses, safety shoes, earplugs, sleeves and gloves).
