Responsibilities

  • Works in a team setting but has direct responsibility for tests.
  • Works directly with Crash Test engineer to overcome technical issues.
  • Confirms Written and photo-documentation is complete and stored in appropriate location,
  • Reviews test plan and prepares instrumentation and Data Acquisition System (DAS) for test request.
  • Knowledge of complete sled schedule to maintain assigned test schedule. 
  • Understands DTS DAS.
  • Insures the correct assembly of components to produce the requested data. 
  • Can build TSF (test set-up files) from SIF (Sensor input files) and make file adjustments for specific applications. 
  • Installs DAS with proper attention to equipment survivability.
  • Understand test modes, including regulations that allow the technician to make suggestions and changes to produce desired test outcome.
  • Selects and applies instrumentation to the test vehicle
  • Has the skill to apply each instrument properly to insure correct data collection.
  • Performs DAS check-out prior to testing event to insure DAS system is proper installed and working correctly.
  • Installs and removes Anthropomorphic Test Dummies (ATDs) in/from crash vehicles 
  • Applies H/S video equipment hardware to vehicles
  • Designs and builds H/S video fixtures (including lighting) for testing that meet reliability requirements for destructive testing, to insure equipment survivability.
  • Still Photography for Test documentation
  • Repair of Instruments and/or report for replacements as needed.
  • Uses Fork lift to move vehicles
  • Fabricates small fixtures to use for equipment and transducer mounting
  • Uses standard Fabrication tools, Grinders, welders, saws, soldering irons and Torches
  • Ability to disassemble and reassemble complete vehicle interior in a timely manner.
  • Use CMM to position ATD’s and test fixtures
  • Setup and Collect High Speed Video

Qualifications

  • 3+ years working experience or Associates Degree in Automotive Technology
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft office (Outlook, Excel, Power Point)
  • High mechanical aptitude and automotive technician experience
  • Has a strong understanding of all common instruments used in Safety testing. Accels, String pots, tear switches, gyros, etc. Trouble-shoots instrumentations as needed.
  • Has skill to produce the required Photo-evidence of test mode.
